What is impact testing for sports?

Impact testing measures how much force is required to break a particular part of the human body. For example, a basketball player may be tested on how hard he can throw a ball.

Players that perform well in this test have high levels of agility and speed. They tend to be more flexible and can move their lower limbs quickly.

Impact Testing: How to Measure the Results?

There are many different ways to measure the results of impact testing. These include:

Time

The time in which a player can maintain balance is called their Time Limit. A coach will take notes on the player’s performance during this test, showing the coach which player was good at maintaining balance.

Reaction Time

Another way to measure the results from the impact testing is by measuring the time it takes a player to respond to a stimulus, such as a ball hit towards them. Coaches are looking for players with short reaction times, as these players are likely to be fast and agile.

Jumping Ability

Another way to measure impact testing results is by measuring the height a player can jump.

Sprint Test

This is a quick way of measuring speed by sprinting over a set distance. The player runs back and forth across the court, and the total length divided by two is taken.

Lateral Agility Test

This is similar to the Sprint Test, but instead of running back and forth, the player runs laterally around the court. The player runs in a straight line, and the time taken to complete the distance is recorded.
